As soon as my K3 arrives and I've welded it together I'll have a listen on
6m. If I can't hear the background noise I'll try a masthead pre-amp,
probably SSB Electronics.

Elecraft have accepted that comment. Wayne has explained how an external
preamp can be looped in via the KXV3, so there's our workaround for next
year's Es season.
The beauty of the K3 is that all the RF front-end modules are pluggable.
I'd bet that an inboard 6m preamp option will arrive before the F2 does!
