The manufacturer's intended usage is, DeOxit Gold for new work and Deoxit for older work. Deoxit has a solvent that disolves contact film. Deoxit Gold protects w/o effecting conductivity. See the Caig website for a more detailed explantion of their products. I have rarely used the products myself.
