Be very careful of any old VOM's around modern gear! For resistance checks they often used sufficient voltage and current to destroy modern i.c.s
Even though you're only looking for a short circuit, if you do NOT have a short, whatever voltage/current the old VOM delivers will be placed across the circuit and ground when you run the check.
