Jay - the Heil Proset (December, 2004) for the K2 that I have has an electret (condenser) microphone and therefore requires bias. It was furnished with the Heil adapter cable that has a "red" bead on it which, according to the instructions, "May be marked Kenwood" and came with the 5.6K resistor as well as 8 configuration jumper blocks. Newer ones may be different but I doubt it.
Neither the HC4 or HC5 cartridges require bias. They are not electrets. I have used all three with the K2 with great success and am currently using the Proset (with the electret) on my K3 - also with great success.
