I don't really want to throw more fuel on the fire, but if you forget for a moment that Wayne and Eric are fellow hams and, as far as I can tell, nice guys with no previous record of trying to cheat people, it's hard to deny they are selling a product that does not, yet, do everything that is advertised. It's difficult to imagine so many people condoning the situation if the product was a car or a TV set instead of a radio.
I think Steve is right: there are two camps: the "believers" who are happy to accept that things don't always go to plan, and whose previous experience of Elecraft gives them the faith that what was promised will eventually be delivered, and the "consumers" who saw a product announcement, thought "I want that", placed their order and expected to receive what was advertised or else exercise their right to complain about it. It's perfectly OK for people to be believers, but I don't think that gives them the right to criticize people who expected to get what was written in black and white right from the start. In the end, though, the latter group can always ask for their deposits back. I am not aware that Elecraft has ever refused such a request, which perhaps shows they are not trying to do anything illegal. Still, I think the truth is at the moment, those of us who have a K3 have what in software terms would be called a beta version, not a release product. I can live with that, since after all it's only a hobby, and it's still more fun to have a beta K3 to play with than not to have one at all. Either Elecraft grossly underestimated the things that could go wrong and the amount of work to be done to deliver the K3 as advertised, or they set out to deliberately mislead people. Personally I think it's the former, which is just bad luck for them, and for us. But it seems to be there are only two choices: either you be patient and wait for it to all come right or you take your money and spend it on something else. ----- Julian, G4ILO K3 s/n: 222 K2 s/n: 392 G4ILO's Shack: www.g4ilo.com Zerobeat Ham Forums: www.zerobeat.net/smf -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/The-Believers-tp14983707p14988528.html Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [email protected] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
