I heard from Elecraft this afternoon (Sunday) - woohoo!!! - None other than Miss Lisa Jones herself.
"What are you wearing?", I asked. "My Elecraft sweatshirt" she replied. Oh baby! So they confirmed my K3 order, all the info as expected, and will be shipping within days. The order date was May 10 and I was -certain- that I'd have a K3 by the August 31 target date. I even dialed in from vacation to find out. True, if Elecraft were AES, HRO, or Yaesu on this order I would have hired an attorney by now but guess what - they aren't. They are my friends and neighbor hams right here in California putting their hopes, dreams, blood and sweat into a custom built transceiver, in the traditional spirit of amateur radio.
