Jim,

The KIO2 is not required (nor will it help) for any of the soundcard derived AFSK data modes. If the application supports PTT operation by activating one of the RS-232 signals on a serial port (usually RTS or DTR), you can build a 2 diode, 1 transistor, 1 or 2 resistor interface that activates the transceiver PTT input. Check out some of the methods of interfacing PSK31 that can be found on the internet (Google 'PSK31') and you will see several methods of keying the rig's PTT input.

PSK31 and its variants do not use the RS-232 data signals at all.

Is it worth it to put in a KIO2 just for PSK? Or is a comport interface to the PTT adequate?

I'm trying to avoid multiple disassemblies of the K2 so I'd like to put everthing in at once.
