Beware... Initially I installed just one felt washer. After a short time I noticed the tuning knob was binding against the plastic panel. This can cause scratching of the surface.
I put the other washer in place and that gave sufficient spacing, however when the knob was turned it made a rubbing noise. I raided the XYL's material supply, and made up 2 washers from a softer felt. Problem solved. 73 Stewart G3RXQ On Sun, 17 Feb 2008 14:26:48 -0800 (PST), Don Rasmussen wrote: > Double Ooops? > > Same here although I never went back to read the > instructions - installed ONE felt washer, set the knob > with minimal friction - could not be happier... > > Time to change the doc? !!! ;-) > > > [Elecraft] K3 Tuning Knob (was: K3 Tops the List!) > Bill W4ZV btippett at alum.mit.edu > Sun Feb 17 16:53:34 EST 2008 > > Previous message: [Elecraft] K3 Tuning Knob (was: K3 > Tops the List!) > Next message: [Elecraft] Run for the Bacon - C6AKQ > Messages sorted by: [ date ] [ thread ] [ subject ] [ > author ] > > ---------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- > > > Barry N1EU wrote: > >> I also found the K3 to be a great performer in the > tough condx this >> weekend. >> >> I must quibble a bit about the tuning knob however. > I find it just about >> impossible to adjust it for slight damping without > feeling asymmetric drag >> against the felt washer.
