Good Evening,
Today was another beautiful day in Oregon. Sunny and warm with very light
winds. The propagation was pretty good too! At least on forty meters that is.
Twenty was noisy with various amounts of QSB from region to region. I lost a
number of folks. I would get their initial hail and never hear them again. AL
and RS were two I remember.
It is nice to have a sunny, warm day; two of them in a row in fact. The
house stayed warm with very little effort on my part. That was good because I
spent a lot of time cleaning, washing dishes, doing laundry, folding clothes,
splitting wood, burning trash, and other details which had been put on hold
during the week. Hopefully this week will be less well filled with activities.
I did notice my hands were cramping during the nets. This is due to having
a mallet in one hand and a gouge in the other for three hours a day plus
splitting a bit more firewood with a maul and a wedge. Fine motor skills are
not easily found after your hands have been banging away for hours at a time.
Typing is a chore now too. But I am making progress on a nice sculpture in red
cedar. In about a week I'll be at the surface I am finding in the wood.

Now for a more relaxed week where I can enjoy the wonderful weather. Pat's
daffodils will get fertilized and some of the brush from winter will be cleaned
off the yard. The last of the snow should be gone soon at the rate it is
melting. Further up the mountain there is still quite a bit in the shadows but
that won't last long with the sunny days and warm temperatures. The birds are
starting to come back so I should prepare for the hummingbirds. Pat would
start feeding them in late February or early March. I'll find at least one
feeder and get it ready. There are three of them so I can drive the defensive
males crazy ;) They cannot defend all of them simultaneously so it damages
their ego just a little. But, I watch the more patient females as they feign
ignorance of the male displays. Pat wanted to write a paper on the mating
flight patterns she had observed over the years. I'll have to start taking
field notes so I can write that paper one day.
Until next week stay well.

Kevin. KD5ONS (Net Control Operator 5th Class)
