I have been a lurker on this and other reflectors, and after much deliberation, have plunged in to order a K3. I really needed to wait until I could afford it, but then I told myself, if I continued to wait, I would lose out on the enjoyment of the radio. The members on this reflector, with very few exceptions, seem to be willing and able to assist those of us who are new to these modern radios.

Up until a little over three years ago, I never owned a Ham radio any less than 25-30 years old. I was always waaaay behind the wave of the latest and best developments. Now that I am approaching retirement, it is time to begin surfing that wave and learning new ways of operating and contributing to the fellowship of Amateur Radio Operators. And, after examining the various new developments and companies producing this new wave, I settled on the K3 as probably the most bang for the buck. -- (it really depends upon what a person is looking for in a radio.) It will be late May or June before I receive my K3, and probably late June or July before I put it all together (during summer, I get busy with work, yard work, etc.) and begin operating, but between then and now I will be planning, developing and building my shack to take advantage of the new technology. (you can see some of the ideas I have on my website, www.w4ish.net -- This website is not finished, and I welcome any suggestions for help in building my shack which anyone may contribute).

Thanks to all who are on this reflector and who, unknowingly, helped me to make my decision to go with Elecraft after much vacillation and uncertainty. I hope to find many friends here and to grow in knowledge about the new Ham Radio technology in the coming years.

Bill -- W4ISH (With my call, you only have to know half the Morse Code -- just the dits)
