I also don't know what is going on, but I have noticed somewhat
similar behavior with my K3 as well. I've seen it with the 1mW
transverter output using MCU 1.69 + DSP 1.53, as well as on short wave
with MCU 1.75 + DSP 1.57. I did not see a connection to just the 40m
band being affected. On short wave the problem appears to be much
worse at roughly 30W than at the 100W level.
If you have more information, you should report it to Elecraft's K3
support address, imho.
