Probably not a problem in modern solid-state rigs (and an electronic keyer would be used in any case). However, that might not be a good idea for a hand key in some cases :^)

I was thinking the same approach could be used for a single-paddle design by placing the moving part in the center of the loop.

Well, actually, those clever paper clip paddles will only operate iambic if you use the center post as ground. That puts the part your fingers touch at positive potential. Probably not an issue, but I'd feel a bit better if the finger pieces were ground. That would require the center piece to become 2
pieces.
