Tom,

If U6 is getting hot, check for a short to ground at pin 1 or pin 2. Both these pins must not have a DC path to ground. The DC voltage on both pins 1 and 2 should be close to 1.4 volts. You can reach the pins of all the components in the KX1 from the bottom of the board.

The KX1 went together w/o a hitch. Performance matched my Elmer's old rig and life was good. Then came the 3080 option that required re-work. I followed the instructions and now there are problems. * Can't Rx any signals at all. Not even WWV. But the Elecraft signal generator can be heard on it's specific frequencies at both 50 and 1 uV.
   * U6 can cook eggs on Rx!!
