Frank and All,

I'm not sure what radio you are using, but on my K3 I get better reports using my headset with the IC element than I do with the other one that has the HC4/HC5 combo. Also, with a little manipulation of the internal equalizer, you can make the IC element sound very much like the HC4 I would think. But if you still want to try changing it, it wouldn't be a hard thing to do. Just swap out the elements. On the K3 you would then remove the bias by menu change. On the K2 you would have to lift the jumper providing bias to pin 1.

Subject: [Elecraft] Proset K2 Replace IC with HC-4 ?

Hi all,

I am thinking about replacing the IC Mic in the Proset K2 with a HC-4. My questing: Can I do this without any aditional things? Just solder out the IC and solder in the HC-4? Or isn't it that simple? Of course with no bias then...

However if it is that simple, what do you guys think? Would you recommend this or is it better to leave the IC with the Proset K2 at the K3?

73!
Frank, DD7ZT
