---------------------------- One early commercial receiver featured a volume control with a pointer and scale with a 1 at full volume and a 9 near minimum volume. The operator turned in a station, adjusted the volume for a comfortable listening level, and read the "S" (signal strength) off of the volume control. Recently a couple of the fellows here commented on how modern rigs are removing the need for the operator to think. Perhaps the S-meter, or that "calibrated" volume control, was the true beginning of that trend :-) Ron AC7AC _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [email protected] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
