Hi Dale, No there hasn't been any new updates since 1.1.4.1. It's odd that 1.1.4.1 would report that you need to install a new version unless you had the utility pointing to a firmware folder containing an older version of K3UtilityVersionInfo.txt. Make sure you have the most current firmware files downloaded from the Elecraft server in your firmware folder. This is the first time I've heard of a kernel panic (or hard crash). I'm running 10.5.3 without problems. If it should happen again, try to recall the steps you took to cause the crash to occur and let me know.
