That assumes that the DSP portion of the radio is "maxed out" (which 
is not the case presently) and that one can not (or chooses not) to 
replace the DSP should Elecraft offer an upgrade to take advantage 
of newer/better technology.

That is fine if you have the time, expertise, and programming tools 
to modify PowerSDR or create your own replacement.  Most users do 
not have that luxury and the performance/usability advantages of the 
K3 are significant in several key areas.
