Good Evening,
Tonight after the second net I got back to splitting wood. The weather is
perfect for it and the wood is checking nicely. The rounds have dried since I
cut them at the beginning of the biting fly season. While this may not rest my
ears from the QRN of 40 meters it does feel good :) Both twenty and forty
meters had QRN; much higher on forty of course. There was some QSB on both
bands too but we worked around it. The twenty meter net started with Fred
checking in from Northern California. Seems the E layer is still bouncing
signals between us. On forty meters Dale once again had his strong signal from
Northern California. Why did he have to check in right after a weak signal?
The contrast was jarring, to say the least, since I had just cranked the gain
up. But he did remind me that Field Day is next week. Since I have not been
asked to join anyone I'll work from home. It will be fun!
Just after I wrote the announcement email last night I walked out to the
kitchen and saw a deer eating my lawn. I told her she could have as much as
she wanted but she gave me a funny look and walked off. Women! I can't seem
to talk to them correctly any longer :( But I expect she'll be back tonight as
long as I keep my mouth shut. The next set of berry bushes have started to
bloom. The back yard is full of them. Ever since the windstorm of a couple
years ago I get a lot more light back there. The birds have spread the seeds
and now I should be able to at least see a good crop of them. Those very same
birds seem to eat all the berries when they are just a little too green for me.
They do let me eat a couple of my favorite one though: thimbleberries.

I seem to have forgotten an anniversary in the hectic ways of life. On June
6th, 2008 the Elecraft Net was five years old. If I would have remembered it
in time we could have celebrated this during the net on the 9th. Oh well,
guess we will have to wait for the tenth anniversary. But, as long as I am on
the subject, we have had 4795 QNIs from 571 individuals. Maybe we can
celebrate the 5000th QNI since it will be happening soon. Guess I was too
caught up in trying to get things done instead of having fun. Kind of sad, in
a way, to think life can get too hectic to have fun. Pat was big on
celebrating the least little thing. Made life with her wonderful.
If there are any errors in the above lists please email me with the
corrections. I'll get them fixed. That reminds me I should also update the
website with a newer version of the spreadsheet. I will take a look at it this
week in my copious spare time :) Now to get back to work debugging an RTOS on
a uC in the other room.
   Until next week stay well,
      73,
Kevin. KD5ONS (Net Control Operator 5th Class)
