OK...my 2 cents..... I just looked at the Yaseu 2000 instruction manual on line. To narrow the bandwidth, you turn the knob counter-clockwise (and vice versa).
Some Kenwood radios (eg, TS940) have a VBT control (variable bandwidth tuning). Turning the knob counter-clockwise makes the BW narrower - and that radio is 20 years old, so this is far from something new.
