I'm prompted by LB3SA's posting to recount my recent experiences with the KX-1.
I have had the KX-1 some time but used it little. However, I have had a lot of fun with it over the past 5 weeks in EA, CT and F. I used a 10m DK9SQ 'mast' with about 12m of wire and a counterpoise. What an easy way to play radio! In my tent in the mornings before the kids stirred, I listened to G's and EA's (of UK descent) working VK and ZL. All audible with a radio I could hold in my hand, and all whilst still cocooned in my sleeping bag. My KX-1 is fully loaded and the internal ATU is just great. I bought some Energizer Lithium cells and two sets lasted the whole 5 weeks of lots of listening and casual transmitting. I did have a 7Ah SLA battery with me but never used it. Now back in the UK I'm reunited with my K3 which I had loaned to a local ham before I left. He will be in California in a couple of weeks and is wishing he could pick one up for himself! He is currently using a FT2000 line-up and was most impressed with the quality of the K3 receiver, especially its stress-free audio.
