I believe it is PAN-PAN that should be repeated three times, i.e. PAN-PAN PAN-PAN PAN-PAN. Only one MAYDAY or PAN-PAN is used in each subsequent transmission.

Incidentally, in aviation use, I believe that PRACTICE-PAN is used for simulated emergencies, and probably ought to be used in other exercises.

The voice ones, however, are stilled used for aviation purposes.
