Frank, this is the 8.215 MHz I.F. trap inductor. If it's getting hot, it must have been mistuned so that it was resonant too close to the 40 m band. Please e-mail k3support; Gary will help you get a replacement.

Meanwhile, avoid using high power on 40 and 30 m.

The trap is adjusted at the factory, but it sounds like you may have had an intermittent solder joint or a shifted winding by the time the unit was installed.
