I think that you haven't assigned FL1 the 2.8K filter for data mode in the
config menu. I'm not looking at the K3 right now so I can't give you the
exact menu, but it's the same steps you should have gone through for SSB and
CW.

It was my impression, based on two sources, that for PSK31, it was
best to use the 400Hz filter (FL2 in my case), not the 2.8kHz (FL1 in
my case) filter. Was I wrong?
But to check, I went to change to the 2.8 KHz filter for the data
mode, and so while in data mode, went to the config menu. and changed
FL2: ON to NO, with the aim of then setting FL1 ON to YES. However,
the configuration menu does not have FL1, so wasn't able to test
whether my problem is that I should be using the 2.8 kHz filter.

Even if you press the XFIL button?

Don't understand why you can't upgrade the MCU due to running Linux. I
didn't think any version of firmware was specific to the host PC OS.

No, but I assumed that the installation utility might be designed for
the operating system, and its development for Linux was slower than
for Windows.
When I run the k3util utility and click Copy New Files from Elecraft
Server, the new files are downloaded to the ~/Elecraft/K3_Firmware
directory. However, the downloaded files are the MCU 2.46 that came
with my K3, not the newest firmware, MCU 2.57.

Any Linux users out there who can explain?

Nothing to do with Linux. 2.46 is the latest release. For the beta
firmware, you have to go and download it from the FTP site and point
the utility to the location you unzipped it into.
