Knowing what a gamble it is buying a switched mode PSU for ham radio use I
hope no-one will mind my passing on a recommendation for one I got today. It
is Maplin code L11BQ (http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=48517)
and it is on special offer at £19.99 until 20 January. Not a bad price for a
13.5V 4.0A PSU!

I have just tested it on an FT-817 with a Wonder Whip on the back which is
the worst possible test due to the close proximity of antenna and PSU and I
could detect no increase in noise when the power supply is switched on. I
didn't notice any warblies that were caused by the power supply either.

This would make a very nice, small, portable power supply for a QRP K2 or
any of the other QRP Elecraft radios, that you could use from a hotel room
or whatever with an indoor antenna.

With best wishes for a happy 2009.
