Hi, Mark.

I'm a bit confused.  The specs on the Dell E1405 say it has four USB ports, so the simplest solution by far is to just buy a USB-to-RS232 adapter.

That laptop also has an ExpressCard slot, though, and for about $90 (might find one cheaper if you search around) you can buy an RS232 adapter that inserts into that slot if you prefer.

Subject: [Elecraft] K-3 Arrived. Interface RS232 Serial DB9 cable to
USB, or DB9, or other options?

Interface Cable question: The Dell E1405 laptop here does not have a
RS232/DB9 port, and at this time I would prefer not to have to use the USB
port for an interface cable. The only other ports on the computer are the
(a) 15-pin "Video" port, the (b) RJ-45 network connector port, and (c) the
RJ-11 modem port. I would think these latter ports are not options, but pls
let me know if I'm wrong about that.

Comment: This is my first post here, having received the K-3 just
yesterday, SN#2001 with several accessories installed. As a closing comment
to my first post, let me just say here that Katie and company were great.
We need a T-shirt with their pictures on it. I feel privileged to be here
as an Elecraft K3 enthusiast along with the rest of you, as it is my belief
that the K3 will eventually surpass the legendary fame of the Collins KWM-2.
This list has been more than helpful. I have been reading the Reflector for
the past four months, with much of camaraderie and encouragement here
leading me in the direction of the Elecraft Order page. Thank you. 73 de
Mark.
