OK...so we (several of you) have identified a similar situation of "mushiness."
Just out of curiosity, did anyone have a 2nd receiver (non-K3) handy to see if IT could "copy" the signals cleanly? Also... IMO, copying a slight tone shift (ala W4ZV link, which is VFB) is a lot different than trying to copy multiple (weak) signals all at about the same pitch, all of which are sending digital (cw) information. I think the brain will try to zero in on one, but that will be exceedingly difficult to do, since no one signal ends up being an easy focus.
