I have a K3 carrying case from Ken and his XYL and I love it. One thing I did notice is it is soft throughout the case. I had my wife make a "stiffener" from plastic canvas used for knitting. this is available at craft stores. My wife cut the plastic canvas material the same size as the bottom of the carrying case and covered it with duck cloth which is soft.
With this stiffener on the bottom of the carrying case it provides a stable platform for the feet on the side of the k3 to set on and makes the sides stable to protect the K3 during transport. Placing the K3 in the carrying case with the front panel facing up exposes all the coax/BNC connectors to damage when the case is set down on it's bottom. With the stiffener installed in the case I feel the K3 is much safer with the K3's side feet down.Message: 73 Dave KD1NA Date: Fri, 27 Feb 2009 06:54:31 -0600 From: "Robert Naumann" <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Elecraft Dust Covers, Carry Cases, and More To: <[email protected]> Message-ID: <d191dffe49bb4273b3643180f24c1...@sonyrb42g> Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" David, If you were not transporting the K3 and merely keeping it safe on a shelf or in a closet, you might want to place it with the handle towards the opening so you could lift it out of the case somewhat more easily with the handle. While transporting it on the shoulder strap, you would want the front panel facing up so you minimize the chances of smashing the delicate front panel into something. Also, since the case is not rigid, the shoulder strap will put pressure on the back and side panels as you carry it with the front panel facing up - I would not want to put that pressure on any part of the front panel. So, when I travel with mine, it's front panel towards the opening - not the handle. 73, Bob W5OV ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
