Hello Grant, There are some that are strong enough that when the antenna is removed, they can still be heard a little bit above the noise floor. For the most part however, removing the antenna or changing over to the dummy load removes or masks them completely.
It really does sound like some sort of synth noise, but I can't explain its behavior with the antenna.
