Chuck, You don't say which model you have. The QRP version maybe??? If so, you don't want to try running 100 watts through it!
In any event, you shouldn't need a tuner unless you are trying to use the antenna on a band it's not designed for. I suspect PAR's warning was perhaps because the matching network may not be stout enough to withstand a really bad mismatch while you are trying to tune it. Perhaps you can get away with it if you drop your power way down while tuning, but I'd be wary of doing that.
