Agreed Dave...
I thought KV4FZ was way over compressed during ARRL DX SSB, along with a couple of the US M/M or M/S. The only advantage I could see was taking up a lot of room with basically a "KEEP OUT" sign posted. I've had mixed results informing folks of lousy sounding signals on both CW and SSB. A few times have resulted in finding a problem and other have told me I don't know what I'm talking about... Still playing with the SSB settings, and learning what works and what doesn't. I do need to adjust my self monitor level as I tend to keep it very low on CW so I can pick weak signals out better when running. Muffled guys I have been skipping over if I can't figure the call out somewhat quickly. Don't know which is worse, key clicks or Backman Turner Overdrive ;o) Maybe see you in RDXC? probably in WPX ;o) Good luck and do let me know if I sound like crap please! 73, Julius Julius Fazekas N2WN Tennessee Contest Group http://www.k4ro.net/tcg/index.html Tennessee QSO Party http://www.tnqp.org/ Elecraft K2/100 #4455 Elecraft K3/100 #366 --- On Mon, 3/16/09, David Gilbert (via Nabble) <[email protected]> wrote: > From: David Gilbert (via Nabble) <[email protected]> > Subject: Re: [Elecraft] K3's RF Clipping Speech Processing > To: "Julius Fazekas n2wn" <[email protected]> > Date: Monday, March 16, 2009, 1:43 PM > During the NAQP SSB contest in January, I heard a single-op > somewhere in > the midwest calling CQ with a steady S9 +20db signal that > was so > overcompressed that he was literally not understandable. > Nobody was > answering him, but lots of guys were commenting on his bad > signal behind > his back.
