Hi Steve,
I actually have a 746 Pro and also noticed the noise blanker's ineffectiveness. I used my K-3 for a month without getting around to trying the noise blanker. Then one day on 75 meters in the morning, I was in a group and had S8 noise; the kind of noise that sounds like ignition noise, except I was in the shack and no cars were running. I turned on the noise blanker, tweaked the settings, and was able to drop the noise down ~ 2 S units, so that I could hear the group. Since then I've been very impressed with the noise blanker, but, I notice that it doesn't remove all noise. I also have a Mark V FT1000 MP and it's noise blanker also doesn't do much. In my opinion, the K-3 noise blanker is definitely a plus in the radio. I also have recently played with the receive equalizer, reduced the higher frequencies ~ 6 dB, and hear less audio noise. I've gotten used to doing this using EZ_K3 which allows me to save the equalizer settings for each mike, and my speakers / headphone. To: Elecraft Reflector <[email protected]> Message-ID: <[email protected]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 All - One of the reasons for purchasing a K3 over, say, an Icom IC-756ProIII was that the ProII I used to have had a noise blanker button, but it never seemed to actually do much. Sadly, I'm in the midst of several severe power line noise sources (the power company is getting to them as they can), but I'm finding that my K3 NB is having no effect, in ANY of the zillion settings available. This isn't strange, bizarro noise - just arching from a power line. Is anyone else experiencing less than satisfactory NB performance with their K3? I'm running the latest Production firmware. Comments appreciated - you can make them private, if you like, and I'll post a summary.
