Hi John - the front panel message " FP.H b1 A5 " really is FP. (means Front Panel Mic Connection) H (means "high" sensitivity) and the b1 A5 is just an attempt to write the word "bias" within the limitations of the LCD display! That is b = b, 1 = i, A = a, and 5 = s. You are not the first one to be confused with the b1 A5! This means that you have "bias" turned on and that is why you are hearing a noise from the mic. Turn "bias" off - this is done by tapping either the "1" or the "2" (not in front of radio right now) when you are in this menu mode. You might want to consider updating to the latest firmware.

The 'manual' says: " to select front or rear panel microphone AND to turn BIAS on/off, use the MAIN:Mic SRC menu entry.. My firmware 1.78 only shows: MIC SEL FP.H b1 A5 and I have not figured out how to adjust it - the main VFO knob also gives me a choice of rP.H and LInE In .. On a separate note - I have this anomaly that I emailed support on Friday night: "Managed to 'lock-up' my K3 - NO buttons work - including power - had to pull the power plug.... going thru the config menu - at PTT-KEY both ' OFF-OFF' tried to change values and complete lockup Completely repeatable - go to config PTT then move main vfo control and lock up. Was on AM 13840 listening to a SW station/ Changed mode/freq - still does it - as soon as main VFO adjusted. " Any advice/help comments? tnxs John VE3NFK Gary Hembree wrote: > > This is a known problem with the Rev B front panel artwork.
