Make sure you use a FTDI Serial Cable that has a real RS-232 Port built in http://www.ftdichip.com/Products/EvaluationKits/USB-Serial.htm When I bought this cable all my Serial port nightmares ended in Linux, BSD, MAC OS X and Windows 32 OS systems.
In Windows Vista make sure that you set up the program to run in a windows XP compatibility mode and also make sure that you have downloaded the latest version of HRD. Contact the author of HRD if problems continue. I use Windows Vista. The K3 is connected to the program in the beginning(I can read the K3´s frequency), but then stops working(blue screen).
