The only audio mod made to both rigs deals with the cap change on the corner of the main board. Also, you don't need to be transmitting. You can hear the thumping in the TEST mode.

If the sidetone monitor is turned up to a good fairly loud position, you will not hear the thumping. IF it is turned to what I would call a comfortable level for my ears, then the thumping occurs. It is not dependent on AF gain being set excessively high, but is rather dependent on the monitor setting is relation to the AF gain.
