Ok I guess I'll throw my hat in too. This FD I started off with the K3 getting placed in the "serious operators" tent while the play rig was down in the gazebo for our 2A.
The K3 with its newly fitted KRX3 treated us pretty good. One thing we did find is that it didn't take a whole lot to get the carrier operated relays to clicking when the other station transmitted. They had one antenna that was on the same string as one of our antennas. So two end to end dipoles and then our second was 90 degrees off of theirs and a good 100 ft away. We also had a 40M windom that was such a sloper that you may as well have called it a vertical. We also got a little bit of the relay's clicking when we transmitted but that was fairly rare. Is there a chance that something could break by virtue of those being activated? What exactly is going on there? I'd have thought that it was something related to the TX path but there are no relays that switch when entering TX so that makes me wonder what they are there for and what not... Hope that things can't break by virtue of them switching. I never did see a RFI DET message. Would switching my KRX3 AUX from the second port of the KAT3 to the AUX RF connector help me with the Carrier Operated Relay issue? -------- I mentioned it in an earlier message but I also had a lot of fun making our top CW operator run on my K1.... He has a surprised expression every time someone answered him. Then after breaking a few pile ups he started to just consider it normal. This was great to have him get into this state of mind after saying "Life is too short for QRP...". --------- Sorry for the rambling un-edited nature of this message. I'm flat beat.
