I built a K1 and did not hit this wall. I did spend a lot of time circling in confusion before I managed to develop a clear understanding of what was going on. It is not a lack of information, but the way this information is revealed.
I hardily agree with Mike's assessment. At the price point of the K1 and its level of production deliveries, I do expect more than what I got in the documentation.
