K7AGE in kalifornia seems to have solved the problem of how to control your home computer and radio when away from home on a trip.
See his video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whe9nV9InnQ He uses www.logmein.com which provides free remote control of the one's home computer. The PRO version costs money, it gives only 1-way audio. The PRO version doesn't seem to help this application. Then for sound he uses SKYPE - setup to auto answer and to use the sound-card built into his tigertronics Signalink-USB which also provides PTT. This solution works great for him - when he takes his laptop on a trip and uses the hotel's wifi. However, for people using the hotel's computer in the lobby... or people who are at work... in both cases often one has no priviledge to install any software on the computer. For unknown reasons SKYPE does not provide a web based SKYPE phone call capability. SKYPE software has to be installed. Even if one gets Skype to work from a USB thumb drive, some employers have SKYPE's application sockets blocked at the router. Why the strong desire to block Skype? I don't know. But some employers blocks it. So, to me, two way sound is the larger challenge for remote application. However, for digital modes, two way sound is not needed, and www.logmein.com provides the complete solution.
