I've was in the dark ages of radio for sometime. Over year ago I decided to update my HF transciever, the newest one I was using was an SB-102 Heathkit.
I didn't have money to burn, (not that it would help) I wanted the most modern and new at a good price. Something traditional looking and hopefully a kit. So after a little research, the K3 came up. I had seen the K2 and was considering going down that road until the K3 was released. I waited a while until some. kinks were worked out and ordered one (No.2483). It arrived a few months later (forgot to confirm the email), then it sat for another few months until I could pick it up. The waiting was nuts. I built it over a fews days when time permitted, (about 7-8 hours) did the mods/fixes on the boards too. I couldn't belive how well everything fit together - amazing. Reading this forum and various reviews over the interim was a real help, it made me aware of a few things. It has the lastest firmware (beta version) and I use a Gamma HPS-1a power supply to - modernise. I took it all to the club meeting, hooked it up and dazzled everybody there, like little kids in a candy store. The whole set-up sans antenna fit in a briefcase and weighed nothing. This K3 is more radio than I am ham. After a few months using the K3, I loaded up HRD on my laptop at the urging of a fellow club member to stop using the old paper logs and get a computer logger. That's another story. Neat stuff. So much to learn. So the shack is cooler now, electric bills are lower and I have sooo much more room on my desk! Thank you all at Elecraft for making such a great product. I have a few questions about the some issues with the betaware, but I'll put that in another post. 73, Douglas 4Z5TO -- View this message in context: http://n2.nabble.com/Newer-K3-user-tp3324807p3324807.html Sent from the [K3] mailing list archive at Nabble.com. ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
