I have received a couple of direct replies - thanks for the insight. I did leave out a couple details about the problem. I did not notice it until after I installed the KAT2.
But also, I had never really used headphones for more than a minute or two until the day I started hearing this. I prefer the speaker when I'm at home, but this day was the first day I took it out in the field and I used the headphones... To make matters even weirder, I listened to the K2, in the phones, for about a half hour last night, and it never happened.
