Before we get synchronous AM receive we need the ability to transmit AM and ESSB using the FM (13 KHz) filter. That would avoid the need to tie up two slots with both the FM (13 KHz) and AM (6 KHz) filters. I've checked both AM transmit through the 13 KHz filter (calling in 6 KHz in the filter configuration) using the SDR-IQ as a spectrum analyzer and receive (with AGC off) 30 KHz away from a 50 KW (daytime) AM station only two miles from me and there are no detectable transmit or receive image issues.
