Good Evening,
The fire feels very nice today. I was simply too cold to go through
another day without heat. But it does appear the forecast has some sun and
warm weather in only a few days. Hopefully this will be the only fire I need
in the month of August. In all the years I have lived here I have only gone a
few months without a fire and those were not contiguous. Luckily I have plenty
of wood left over from last year's cutting. This year's wood is ready but it
is a long way from the house.
Conditions were on again off again all week on twenty meters. Yesterday I
made a contact but it was marginal at times. I did not realize solar minimums
could be so low nor so long. I am glad that is not the only means of exciting
the ionosphere. Coronal mass ejections, solar wind, even a good sized contest
can all excite the ionosphere enough to allow contacts. Work on the buried
power line has left me with a persistent buzz on 40 and 80 meters which has
never been present before. Since the line is buried for miles in either
direction I am not sure of its cause. Tonight I will pull the main breaker and
start listening with a portable AM radio. Maybe I will find a source or at
least a direction.
Please join us tomorrow evening.
