Please, No! Having external signals controlling the sidetone is a disaster.
73, ... Joe, W4TV It is NOT a disaster, it is GREAT. The G3XJP "STAR" transceiver has had it for years. The sidetone amplitude adapts to the amplitude of the incoming signal which makes manual zero beating much, much easier. But in the K3 manner, make adaptive sidetone amplitude another user switch. YOU can turn it off and I'LL turn it on.
