I have seen several posts lately about charging the K2 internal battery.  I
modified my K2 to use one of the top-cover transverter jacks for a charge
port--these wires go directly to the K2 battery through an inline fuse.  Others
have posted pictures on their websites on how to do this.  What I want to
suggest here is that you do not need a big bulky charger for the K2 battery.
The PowerSonic PS-12250-A is a tiny, wall-wart sized autocharger (roughly
2-inch cube) that is a multi-stage charger with a bulk rate of about 250ma that
is perfect for the K2 battery.

The biggest hassle I have found with hotel-portable ops is getting power.
Before drinking the Kool-Aid I used an FT-817 with a small power supply.  The
power cord I had to pack took up more room than the 817 and power supply
combined, because you never know where you'll find an accessible wall outlet.
At the end of this period I was also packing a power strip becasue sometimes
there were no spare outlets.

With the tiny PS-12550-A, I can run with the K2 for hours off the battery, then
cart it into the bathroom (where there is always an outlet) for easy charging.

Czech it out.  I have no relationship with PowerSonic other than owning a pile
of these chargers--they also work great with 5AH gel cells I use for portable
ops.  You can find them on the web.
