Many of these bits come from Latin on which all the "Romance" languages based. In Latin "DE" means "coming from" or "an origin".
The use of the "Charlie" letter flag for signaling between ships has meant "yes" probably long before Morse came into use on the high seas. I suspect that's why "C" in Morse also means "yes" to mariners.
