Hi Jim, In your scenario - split with simultaneous signals, yes, you must have both receivers.
However, you can work split just fine with one receiver and two VFOs, but you have to hop back and forth between the VFOs, using whatever method you prefer. It is also possible to "split" with a single VFO, if there is RIT or XIT available. Worked 3Y0X, split, with the KX1 which has only RIT available....
