Mike: This is a shot in the dark (I don't even own a K3). Did you tune the rig when you installed the dummy load? If it is like the K2 (and I think it is in this regard), the antenna tuner stays at the settings it last made for whatever load was placed on the antenna input. Putting a dummy load on it doesn't guarantee the SWR is 1:1. You need to tune the rig for the dummy load. Then it should be close to 1:1 if all is working properly.
