Chuck: Keep this in mind. The QSK-5's "KEY 2" line activates the PIN diode circuitry. "KEY 2" activates the QSK-5's input and output relays.
> 2) If Key 2, do you have a jumper from AUX to Key 1? Ideally, you want to jumper KEY 1 and KEY 2 together with a "Y" cable using steering diodes. Then, the RELAY line from the QSK-5 connects to the Ameritron amp. If you use AUX to activate KEY 1, that adds > 1 msec. of additional delay to system timing. AUX is primarily used for TX INH handshaking between the amp and transceiver. This PowerPoint presentation from N6MW is essential to ensure a proper interconnection between the QSK-5, transceiver, and amplifier: http://72.52.250.47/images/QSK5.ppt Paul, W9AC ----- Original Message ----- From: "Chuck - AE4CW" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, November 27, 2009 12:09 PM Subject: [Elecraft] K3 and Ameritron QSK-5 Connections and Settings > > I've found several posts regarding this combination but would appreciate a > little more information from those who are successfully using it: > > 1) Which connection are you using between the K3 Key Out and the QSK-5? > Key > 1 or Key 2? > 2) If Key 2, do you have a jumper from AUX to Key 1? > 3) Any other connection configurations you are using or have tried? > 4) Any connection configurations to avoid? > 5) What CONFIG: TX DLY setting are you using (8 ms default)? > > For reference my amplifier is an AL-80B. > > Thanks for any feedback! > > Chuck, AE4CW > -- > View this message in context: > http://n2.nabble.com/K3-and-Ameritron-QSK-5-Connections-and-Settings-tp4076653p4076653.html > Sent from the Elecraft mailing list archive at Nabble.com. > ______________________________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft > Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm > Post: mailto:[email protected] > > This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net > Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
