I just had to say a big thanks to Elecraft for manufacturing such a great radio in the K3. I operated the 160 Meter position at the W3LPL Multi-Multi station this past weekend in the CW Worldwide CW DX Contest. Using a 4-Square for the main receiver and a set of 8 switched Beverage antennas for the sub receiver I used the K3 in the DIVERSITY mode all weekend. It was great to be able to copy weak stations with QSB as their signals faded down and out in one ear while fading up in the other ear. The diversity reception produced Q5 copy, resulting in QSOs with many Topband stations in the contest. Our best DX to the east was EY8MM in Tajikistan at our Saturday sunset. Best DX to the west was TX3A on Chesterfield Island. Also worked on 160M were 3 KH6's, 3 KL7's and 5 JA stations.
I had used a K3 at W3LPL in both ARRL DX Contests earlier this year. We experimented with the diversity mode in one of them, but didn't know how to lock the two VFOs. Even then, it opened our eyes/ears to what diversity reception could do for us. Now that we know how to use it, the K3 will be used in the diversity mode in all future DX Contests on 160 Meters. We ended up with over 400 QSOs in 83 countries and 22 CQ zones in last weekend's CQWW CW Contest. The K3 (with sub receiver) that I ordered a few weeks ago arrived a day before Thanksgiving.
