Two times I directly soldered wires to coin cell batteries only to have a strange thing happen when replacing the spent batteries.
When replacing the spent battery I noticed a strange discoloration on the battery next to where it was soldered. It looked like some king of powder. when I touched the battery with my hot soldering iron to remove the wire there was a loud band and flash from that discolored area of the battery.
