Larry, There are two configuration options that interact with this:
1. If CONFIG:SPKRS is set to 2, then the internal speaker will only play the left channel (main RX). To get both channels in the internal speaker, you need to set this option to 1; but if you do this, the external speaker jack will also supply combined mono audio to the left channel only. 2. If CONFIG:SPKR+PH is set to YES and CONFIG:SPKRS is set to 1, you will only get sound in the left channel of the headphones. If you set this option to NO, the headphones will not be affected by the choice of SPKRS (1 or 2), but when you plug headphones in to either headphone jack, the speaker outputs (internal and external) will be muted. 3. The LINE OUT jack is unaffected by the above, or by the AF gain controls. 4. My experience has been that there is some variability among 3.5 mm (1/8-in) phone connectors; some combinations of plugs and jacks do not always seem to make reliable contact. However, in that configuration only the SUB rx is disabled from the speaker and not the main rx. Now when i've got the headpbnes on, i can hear both rx in there but again, the main rx is still on the speaker. Along the same lines, when i listen to JT-65 or WSPR or any of the digital modes i have to use the Aux rx as i never have gotten any audio from the main rx thru the "line out" jack. I wouldn't think that is normal. It's been this way ever since i bought the radio this past July and i've only done one upgrade software wise. WHY? With all the complaints i have read about i decided i wasn't going to do any software changes until things settled down. Anyone have any ideas as to why the audio as i've described above is doing what it's doing? It's not kil ling me other than curiosity wise and the idea that i'd like to have it working right.
